Bring your own canoe or kayak and gear
or rent (see boat/canoe rentals) from one of the local shops
and tour slow moving rivers like the Kennebago, Magalloway, Carrabassett
or Dead River; paddle the ponds to view the common loon and mergansers
or cranes and herons; or explore the coves and islands of one
or more of the seven lakes in the Rangeley chain (Rangeley, Cupsuptic,
Mooselookmeguntic, the Richardsons, Kennebago and Umbagog), or
Flagstaff Lake, Maine's fourth largest lake. All offer excellent
paddling for beginners and experts alike.
Trips
vary in length from short day excursions to three to five day
journeys. Guides are available to enhance your trip (see guide
services), and some local businesses offer group trips throughout
the summer.
If
watercraft with a motor is more your style, there is plenty of
water for your enjoyment. The larger lakes in the region can
make exploring a multi-day amusement. Local marinas rent fishing,
pontoon and waterski boats as well as personal watercraft, and
some even offer guided and sunset tours.
Many in-town stores carry depth charts of the
local waters for fishing and touring information. For more information
about boating and canoeing in the region see the related
links at the bottom of this page! |
