MidCoast Maine Dog Friendly Vacations

Where to Go

Midcoast Maine has spectacular opportunities for you and your pet. With its craggy coast, woodlands, and miles of trails, the region is a great place to bring your dog. Visit Camden Hills State Park, which features over 30 miles of hiking trails and several miles of rocky shoreline. Dogs are welcome in the park if they are kept on a short leash.

If your dog enjoys frolicking in the water, bring her to Dodge Point Public Reserved Land, located near Newcastle. Pets may roam the beach on this property abutting the Damariscotta River. The Public Reserved Land is also a great place to hike with your dog off-leash. The Boothbay Region Land Trust is also dog-friendly and provides ample opportunities for hiking and splashing in the waves.

The Animal House, a pet supply store in Damariscotta, is an excellent place to purchase toys, food, or treats for your pet. Alternatively, Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland is a small boutique that supplies all-natural food and treats for dogs and cats.

Where to Stay

The Country Inn in Rockport features special pet suites for you and your furry friend. These rooms feature pet beds, food and water dishes, paw wiping towels, and treats. The Lord Camden Inn in Camden also allows pets and offers a day care option if you need to leave your dog behind. If you prefer to stay in Newcastle, the Newcastle Inn has two dog-friendly rooms for pets under 50 pounds; the extra fee is $25 per night.

Where to Eat

The Midcoast Maine region is a great place to get fresh seafood. Check out the Black Bull Tavern in Rockland or the Newcastle Public House in Newcastle for classic pub food. For organic, local fare, consider eating at Savory Maine in Damariscotta. This restaurant has an outside deck at which pets are welcome.
