Route 26 from Newry Maine to Upton Maine

The Grafton Notch Scenic Byway starts in Newry, just north of the Sunday River Ski Area, and travels along Route 26 to Grafton Notch State Park and Lake Umbagog in Upton, which straddles the New Hampshire border. This byway follows the Bear River for most of the trip and chances are good that moose will be spotted en route. Nearby Grafton Notch State Park is a popular picnic area and is a short hike to Screw Auger Falls and Mother Walker Falls.

Route 4/17 from Madrid Maine to Byron Maine

Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway travels along routes 17 and 4, passing Smalls Falls and winding around Rangeley Lake. The route passes through the towns of Rangeley and Oquossoc and follows the ridgeline of the Appalachian Mountains before dropping into rolling hills and valleys. The Height of Land on Route 17 is the centerpiece of this scenic drive, offering panoramic views of Mooselookmeguntic and Upper Richardson Lakes. Moose can often be spotted along this route. This is also a very popular drive for leef peepers during the fall foliage season in late September and early October.

Route 27 from Kingfield Maine to Coburn Gore Maine

The State Route 27 Byway begins in Kingfield, and winds along the Carrabassett River, roffering views of Mount Abraham and the Bigelow Range, as well as Sugarloaf USA Ski Resort. North of Stratton, the route passes Flagstaff Lake and through the Cathedral Pines in Eustis, continuing northward through the Chain of Ponds and climbing up the Boundary Mountains to Coburn Gore and the Canadian border. The byway offers beautiful views of fall foliage in late September and early October, Moose can often be spotted along the route.
