Works by 18th & 19th century American artists including Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Sully, Thomas Eakins, Eastman Johnson, Fitz Hugh Lane, Frank Benson, Childe Hassam, and Maurice Prendergast in a permanent collection entitled Maine in America, as well as 20th-century sculptor Louise Nevelson. The Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth.

The museum, housed in a 1903 school building, features 1905, 1910, and 1916 steam cars, violins, paintings and photographs, airbrush portraits of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen Bryant, as well as Stanley family archives.
