    The Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen has been promoting handcrafts and providing sales opportunities for Maine craftspeople since 1968. It has sponsored Stone Soup Artisans cooperative retail stores since 1988. A juried organization, SSMC maintains a reputation for traditional arts and well crafted original designs. This is a juried show with free admission and free parking. Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more info email acolefairfield@roadrunner.com.

    Explore the legends and lore of Midcoast Maine's lighthouses, including a shore landing at historic Burnt Island Light. You will enjoy a 3 hour cruise aboard Maine Maritime Museum's Merrymeeting as you explore the Kennebec, Sassanoa and Sheepscot Rivers. Your adventure will be guided by Red Cloak Haunted History Tours. Passengers will see up to seven lighthouses, depending on weather and sea conditions, including Doubling Point Light, Hendrick's Head Light, Seguin Island Light, Ram Island Light and The Cuckolds. The visit to Burnt Island will include landing on the island for an up-close look at the restored keeper's house and other facilities, including the majestic Burnt Island Light tower. As you go back in time with The Lady in the Red Cloak, you'll learn the stories behind these iconic beacons; about the lives of some of the keepers and their families, legends and haunts of the lights. The Merrymeeting's professionally trained crew provides a safe, comfortable cruise. A cash bar, with light snacks, is available onboard. Ticket prices include admission to museum. Maine Maritime Museum Members $55; nonmembers $65; children 6 to 12 $34; under 6 $5. Reservations recommended. Tour runs from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

    Award-winning music producer, critic and translator Lawrence Schulman, who lives on Mount Desert Island, will give a talk on Judy Garland, entitled and #34;Moments of Magic, and #34; at the Patten Free Library. The one-and-a-quarter hour talk will examine Garland and #39;s life and career, and feature nine audio-video clips, to be followed by a question and answer. Schulman will endeavor to answer the question: and #34;If I had just one hour to convince you of Judy Garland and #39;s place in classic American popular music, what film and television performances would I choose? and #34; Admission is free. Event is on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
